Investing in Corani: March 2005
Corani has been established as a radical housing co-operative to provide:
| HOUSING | * | ACCESS TO LAND | * | GUIDELINES FOR HANDLING WEALTH |
to people who are willing to share the responsibilities of stewardship, and some of their own resources, in a manner which promotes social justice.
It is one of a very small number of housing co-operatives in England which:
- Are truly controlled by their occupying members - no paid officials.
- Are totally independent of state funding or other subsidies.
- Will house people with no capital.
The survival of Corani has been possible due to its supporters and friends - many of them previously housed by Corani - who have entrusted their capital to its stewardship and/or made generous donations. This trust has not been misplaced: in the 26 years since 1978, Corani has never failed to meet a financial obligation.
With affordable housing now becoming unobtainable for millions of people, the need for economical self-controlled accommodation has never been greater. At the same time, property remains the ultimate security in a world of uncertain markets. And for the ethical investor, it can provide the assurance of knowing that their capital is used for ends which they support
Because Corani brings these issues together 'under one roof', we invite our newer friends also to place some of their capital in Corani Bonds. Detailed capital guidelines are available on request. The main features are:
- Fixed term Loanstock Bonds and/or Class 'A' Bonds withdrawable upon notice.
- Actual term chosen by the subscriber.
- Choice of 5%, 4%, 2% or 0% interest, with permanent options to change up or down [unless otherwise agreed].
- Tax not deducted at source.
- Choice of floating interest rate [related to The Co-operative Bank lending rate] or rate fixed for the duration of the term.
