Joining Procedure
This is a flexible procedure that is fairly slow, and mutually negotiated between the prospective member and Corani as we go along. It takes a minimum of ten months to become a member. Each stage is reviewed at the general meetings. When membership is being considered, only members and the applicant will be present. Members may agree that the applicant leave the meeting for a time if appropriate. Our aim is to welcome people in, to support an applicant where there are problems, to deal with our feelings around them and to come to clear decisions. The stages are:
- Invited to chat
- Temporary stay [approx. one month]
- Probationary membership - taking a full part [usually three months]
- Associate membership [minimum of six months]
- Full membership - buy your share - £1! Put some capital in as loanstock [see Capital Guidelines available on request].
Guests
Corani may sometimes invite a guest to stay, either to allow them to explore their interest in joining Corani, or to help a relative or friend in short-term need.
A guest will normally not stay longer than 6 months. The exact period of time will be agreed before the guest joins us. A guest is expected to participate in the day-to-day running of their household. They may be invited to attend general meetings and other meetings, but not to make policy decisions.
