About Corani
CORANI is a housing co-op with property in Leicester.
Formed in 1978, at present we have two houses and an allotment. Each member, adults and children, has:
- their own room
- shared living space
- fresh food from the allotment
- a chance to sample other’s cooking and offer up their own!
- a chance to get involved in running things for themselves
If you have other requirements, these will be considered.
CORANI members income share fortnightly. More details on how we do this are available. Capital is not essential although if you do have any you would be expected to invest some in the co-op. Capital sharing is an option.
Many supporters, friends and family, have invested in CORANI over the years. At times we welcome new investments to help us develop..
CORANI is part of the ‘Some People in Leicester’ co-operative network that provides opportunities to share, in addition to housing
CORANI is an associate member of Radical Routes, a countrywide network of housing co-ops, land co-ops, workersco-ops, and social co-ops involved in actively and ethically working for social change. All member co-ops participate in running this secondary co-op through which they can give each other support and further their commitment to a collective and sustainable lifestyle.
What Is A Housing Co-op?
A Housing Co-op owns and manages property on behalf of its members. Smaller housing co-ops are usually ‘fully mutual’ – which means that all tenants [after a trial period] must be members with an equal share in the decision making. They are in effect their own landlord.
CORANI is just such a co-op with property in Leicester.
